Creativity… Where does yours come from? (is it natural or self taught)
Where do you think creativity comes from? Some would say there are a select few who are pre programmed to understand, creativity better than others. Who are born with it, and then there are others who believe creativity is simply an individuals way of interpreting information and displaying it in their own way, so in theory every one can be creative.

Im not quite sure what I think, I was born into a creative family, My dad was a Printer all his life and always used his computer and hands to make things that he saw in his head. My Sister was a Graphic Designer right up until she found her calling owning her own business, providing haberdashery products for other creatives. So I was naturally drawn to being creative, whether it was drawing, creating things as a child, or dreaming about putting my own stamp on things.
I believe there is an element of creativity that I don’t think can be taught or learnt. A way of seeing things that only the creative eye can appreciate. Like how empowering a colour is on a shop front, or how subtle a font or detail is on a poster as you drive down the road. Maybe that can be taught to a certain extent. But as for the creator of the empowering shop front, or the designer who implemented that little subtle detail that caught your eye on that poster, why did they go about creating the way they did…
Well I guess that comes back to the concept of every individual looks at and processes things in a different way, creativity doesn’t just stop at design. There is art, music film so many ways the creative expression can be made.

A famous singer, who has turned his hand to writing, acting and has even had his own TV show, Henry Rollins Describes creativity as:
“Starting with nothing and ending up with something. Interpreting something you saw or experienced and processing it so it comes out different than how it went in.” – Henry Rollins
I guess ultimately it isn’t so important where you get your creativity from, but that you continue to be creative. Everyone can be creative whether its being creative for a purpose, or having a goal in sight. Maybe your simply making sense of those crazy thoughts you had in your head, what ever way your being creative keep doing it.
I was told a long time ago, when working in the design industry if you cease being creative and searching for creativeness, then you become out of date and past your best.
Search for something creative and inspirational every day, it will make you better for it.
